Swedish Massage

Soothing touch has been instinctive to human beings as a balm for the body and mind for thousands and thousands of years. Egyptian, sanscrit, and Japanese medical literature, thousands of years old, all refer to the benefits of massage, exercise,  and hydrotherapy. Even until recently bedridden patients received a brief massage once or twice daily to enhance circulation and contain atrophy. But sadly, the rise in surgical and pharmaceutical achievements has altered a physicians approach toward patients, and nurses too have become less involved with hands-on care.

Swedish Massage is a system of therapeutic manual manipulation  of the body’s soft tissues; muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia.

Some of the benefits Swedish Massage are;

  • Enhances circulation, aiding in the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the cells, as well as cleansing the tissues of metabolic waste
  • Increase lymphocyte production, therefore increasing immune function
  • Lowers stress hormone levels
  • Increases morale and general sense of well-being
  • Relaxes tense and spastic muscles
  • Increases joint range-of-motion/decrease pain and stiffness
  • Soothes the nervous system
  • Increases respiration
  • Reduces swelling from the accumulation of fluid in the extremities
  • Assists in deeper and more restful sleep
