About Academic Purposes

English for academic purposes (EAP) is a program, which is ideal for people that are about to enroll in an English speaking University or wish to prepare for working in an English speaking academic environment. In the US, the program is used to prepare prospect for achieving a score of 80 or more on TOEFL, while in the UK the program is used to prepare prospects to attain a score of 6 or more on the IELTS. EAP is also often offered to foreign students, who wish to enroll for a degree at an English speaking University, and could be offered as one or two year course.

EAP teaches reading, writing, speaking, and listening, as well as vocabulary and grammar; many schools, language centers, and institutions in the UK offer full-time EAP courses, where the students are required to engage in great number of activities that would improve their English skills. These courses typically would include listening to lectures, reading academic accurately, giving oral presentations, and taking notes. Most of the classes involve groups of twenty people or less, comprise of twenty or more hours of instructions per week, and will help the students to further improve their language skills.
